10 Facts That Prove Facebook is Evil
It only gets worse as you go down the list...
1. Facebook's policy of forcing users to use their real names could result in people being extorted, blackmailed, or, in extreme cases, even murdered! https://lauren.vortex.com/archive/001133.html
- Don't believe that? Well, someone reportedly had an abuser who showed up to real-life events to which she RSVPed.
How'd the abuser find this person? Facebook made her change her FB name to her legal name: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/jun/03/facebook-real-name-policy-hurts-people-creates-new-digital-divide
[the original post is here; note that this posting says nothing about the gender of the author] - Or this journalist, who didn't want to use her real name on Facebook due to safety concerns: https://www.wired.com/2015/06/facebook-real-name-policy-problems/
- Why is Facebook so adamant that you must use your 'real' name?
Hmm...I ju$t can't imagine any rea$on$ what$oever for $uch an ab$urd policy...
4. They routinely implement changes, move privacy controls around, and generally make it difficult for you to establish privacy or otherwise control your information according to your wishes: https://scholarsandrogues.com/2012/06/26/facebook-the-most-congenitally-dishonest-company-in-america/
5. They use the Facebook mobile app to mine information about your contacts on your phone, so that they can send your friends spammy text messages to get them to sign up, according to what this guy found: https://sosaysharis.wordpress.com/2012/03/22/anonymous-messages-from-facebook/
This widely-read piece sums up everything that's wrong with Facebook and its ever-changing "Terms of Service" (note that they don't call it a privacy policy like everyone else? Gee, I wonder why that is...): http://www.salimvirani.com/facebook/ A sampling of the invasions of your privacy:
- 6. They track the webpages you visit, even when you're not on Facebook!
- 7. They save the things that you type but never actually post
- 8. They show your name and picture to endorse products/services that you haven't actually liked or viewed
- 9. The worst out of many abominations: Facebook collects as much data about you as possible, then shares that information with third parties—and, gallingly, then puts the onus on the users!
- They invade your privacy, profit from the data they gathered...and then claim that you, not Facebook, shared that information with the third party! So if that's true, then what are they getting paid for?...
An adept analogy by this author: Facebook is like the older sibling who grabbed your arm and shoved your hand into your face, and then asked "Why are you hitting yourself?"
- And a gem of a quote, originally from this article on Medium: "Don’t confuse privacy with secrecy. I know what you do in the bathroom, but you still close the door. That’s because you want privacy, not secrecy."
Final notes:
-Facebook's founder, Mark Zuckerberg, famously advised people not to trust anyone over 30 in a venture capital conference in 2007, advocating the practice of hiring young people. Well, guess who's over 30?...
-And, for that matter, guess who wasn't trustworthy even at age 19, mocking people for voluntarily giving him their data?...
